Mental Imagery and Poetry

Abstract Poetry evokes mental imagery in its readers. But how is precisely related to poetry? This article provides a systematic treatment. It clarifies two roles of relation poetry—as an effect generated by poetry and as efficient means for understanding appreciating poetry. The also relates the discussion on ‘heresy paraphrase’. argues against orthodox view that imagistic effects cannot be captured prosaic paraphrase, but points features can shape aspects are liable lost paraphrase.
